The "normal" price depends greatly on where you are and what kinda claim it is. There are 2 types of claims, placer claims and lode claims. Then you also have the land rights question, is the land patented or not? Unpatented placer claims are the cheapest to buy. Patented lode claims that have proven reserves are going to cost you quite a bit.

If your looking for gold claims (you didn't specify a mineral), I'd say Arizona or Nevada would be your best bet, unless you want one in Alaska.

If you want to buy a serious claim, you could check the local prospecting clubs. Explain to them you are interested in buying a mining claim and I'm sure they will help you find someone who has one for sale. Expect to pay anywhere from $300 to $10,000 for 20-120 acre placer claims.
