Question for AT Pro users

I found a ring today and I thought it was sterling. However, it is marked 417. This is the mark for 10k. gold. What is strange is the it rang up 82 or 83 on the AT Pro. It also has some tarnishing on it. I did an acid test and it tested positive for 10k. Anyone ever ran across this before?

That's a fatty! Big gold will ring up higher but 82 is getting up there.

I've never found a ring that nice, so no..Can't help you w/ the VDI..... But that's a helluva ring! Congrats!

Depending on the alloy/s used in the mix 82 isn't out of the realm of possibility. A rarity but doable. Congrats!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I've been lucky to find more than 30 gold rings but never ran across one with a VDI number in the low 80s. All my gold finds have been between the upper 30s to the mid to upper 60s.

the size also has to be considered. but 80's is my usual silver range. I thought 313 was the 10 k range

It is marked 417 which is the marking for 10k gold.

I was lucky again today and found two more 10k rings. One was a beautiful old signet ring that weighed more than 10 grams.
