My car with ( GT and Elite units/coils ) was unfortunately left outside for 2 days in heat of 80-83*

A few days later, when I went detecting at a beach, immediately after turning on the GT, the threshold began "beeping", "choking", erratically "buzzing" etc.

I changed the GT coil to the Elite unit : same problem

I changed the Elite coil to the GT unit : same problem

I changed batteries: same problem

A small hairline split was found on one of the coils; it was sealed off, but problem remains for both coils

The only reason I can think of is the heat affecting the coils

I would appreciate any comments, advice as to how heat may affect coils/units

Thank you,

Lorraine

Moisture in the coil can give fits as Jeff mentions. Often putting the coil in the oven at low heat, or some other SAFE method to dry out the moisture and then sealing the crack will fix the problem. If not, a new coil is in order.

AFTER THOUGHT - I've heard of coils being damaged (warped etc.) from being stored in areas that are too warm. In the car may (or not) be enough, but if the sun beat down on them through a window the temperature may have gotten high enough at the coil to be damaging?
