A friend of mine has offered up his yard on many occasions but, for whatever reason, I have never made it over. I had a 30 minute window at lunch so did a speed-loop... 1906 IHP. 1944 wheat. A piece of fur-trade brass and one deep copper-culture point. I may need to go back. IMG_20170912_122633.jpg

Nice old coppers! :occasion14:

My shortest hunts are my best hands down. Nice copper culture piece. Keep at that site!

Nice quicky score on some keepers. Please explain to me what "fur trade brass" is. I am always finding flat weird shaped brass targets that look old as heck but, I have no idea what they are or could have been used for? I don't throw them away and may have some of this fur trade brass laying around somewhere. Never heard of it? Also the copper item would have probably gone into my semi precious scrap piles. I really need to get educated on some of my finds it appears.:-\

The fur traders would take brass and cut (tear) them into small pieces and trade them with the Indians. In some cases they were shaped into different items; such as tinklers and points. I am thankful that I had saved most all the "trash" that I dug up early on - only to find out later on that they were actually artifacts :)
