Hello Treasure Seekers,

Hit my favorite park again tonight. The site that has given up 9 large coppers, several mercs, rosies, a Barber quarter, a dozen IHs, and about 100 wheats. Would have stayed a lot longer but the rain was picking up and I was getting all muddy. After hunting about an hour and finding a few wheat cents I moved to another side of the park and got a signal. Wasn't all that deep and I didn't think much of it. After cutting my plug and probing with the ol' X-1 I loosened a big disc and got a glimpse of silver off the flashlight. I was a little stunned and pulled out a big coin. Wooohoo! It was a 1896 BARBER HALF DOLLAR. My first large silver coin ever! As you can see there was a coin resting on top of it - a wheat. There were 2 more wheats within 6 inches of it also. Found the rosie about a half hour later but had to leave because of the rain.

Can't wait to go back for more! This park is so nice because new coins are scarce. I wonder what I'm missing by only digging all the silver/penny signals?

At a park like that, I'd be digging all signals!! :o :o ::) Indian Heads sound like zinc pennies, so you've got to dig those signals.

Man, you're tearing it up....One great post after another!!

Keep it going as long as you can....Great Barber Half!!

If there isn't much trash, then you should dig it all!

Don't leave that old Gold jewelry in there for somebody else!

Nice Barber :)

Congrats on the Awesome Barber Half! 1896 looks like a key date or semi key date coin and worth a bunch of box top$ even in good condition. HH, Mike

Just awesome! I can't wait for the day I find my first barber half. Heck, I'd settle for a walker or Franklin.

Congrats!
