That's my medium size gaff hook in that pic. When a big fish is close to the boat we reach out and stick them with this. Then you just sling them in the boat.

20190304_181609.jpg check out the little circle of flesh that's cut out of that tuna......thats the mark of a pretty rare shark called a "cookie cutter shark" they live in the deep and are really small. They will latch on and tear out a perfect little plug of flesh. The wound can be so perfectly symmetrical that it looks like it was done with a cookie cutter......hence the name. The wound in the top fish is where I stuck him with the gaff hook. Your supposed to stick them in the head but it's not easy in the heat of battle. That fish is 50-55 pounds and very powerful.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge on these matters.
I don't know much about the ocean and seeing yours and AARC's cool and awesome photos all the time, is just wonderful to me.

View attachment 1687375 there pec fins are so big they fly like birds underwater !! There is always a crowd waiting for us to come in. They decend on us like flys snatching up every fish we dont want. The 3 barracuda we caught were snatched up so quick that I didn't even get to take a pic.
