that is a weird song
Bruce Springsteen wrote that song about his first manager, Mike Appel, who had him signed to one of "those" contracts.
White Rabbit is a LSD take on a Alice in Wonderland theme.
"Go ask Alice, I think she'll know"

ECS,

I listened to Bruce's version and not all that good to my taste at least.

Oddjob...

Sharks just need little kisses... and petting... like a dog.

Then you just gotta swim like hell.

No Sir, not from me.

A picture is close enough for me.

I am always nervous around them...

Been spine tingled twice...

The first time I ever saw one... and the last time I ever saw one.

The last time I was creeped by a White... the only time I have ever seen one in the wild...

And I never even knew it was there... within ten feet of me and perhaps even closer for all I know.

I did not even realize it was there until I was coming up dive ladder and turned around after seeing my girls eyes get wide as silver dollars.

That was a gut wrench feeling of stupid / shock.

One word...

huge.

I spent 6 of my Army years on a dive team and never saw a shark, that what happened to you I would have crapped my self.

BUT... in between those 2 times... I have seen 100's of em...

I have been rubbed,,, bumped,,, and even mowed over by them in 3 foot of water... and most of those... I had no idea what type of shark it was.

Each time it scares the living crap out of ya... and definitely makes me move quick out of the water and retire for the day.

And no... not a "spine" tingle... that is more like a hard heart thump of fight or flight... and flight is IMO the only option... so I just split.

Sheesh I have even had dolphin rub me a few times... manatee once.

Stingray lit me up once... but stepped on hundreds... never wore shoes in those days.

Oddjob,

You're certainly a sucker for punishment....lol. It must be the adrelin or something that keeps pushing you to do this crazy work.

Did not make it to retirement, already had a new job before I retired. Second retirement check though, both crummy pay, one being US Army and the other being agency, but I did get to keep the tax free status. Anyway this job is not for long, it has me in Europe a great deal of the time, did not get to go fishing of MDing in a long time, but got to do a little both just the other day.

One of these days I am going to get a cool fun job, just have not figured out what that would be exactly.

Once...

When I was about 12-13-14 I don't know...

My best friend at the time had a skiff... little 5 horse... we went out in afternoon... supposed to be back by dark...

Motor dies in intercostal... we drift trying to restart... tide dropping all the while... soon sun is setting and motor is dead... tide is out by darkness...

We are drifting and taking turns paddling with ONE paddle...

All of a sudden we hit some weird grass flats and prop is dragging...

I get out to pull... and to lighten the skiff...

I was in maybe 2 minutes...

Holy crap... I can still feel that sucker telling the story... heh

Against my side this things checks me hard... and like kicks reverse and swashes back against me... knocking me over and down...

Man I freaking was out of the water into the boat like a bolt of lightning... by buddy is freaking thinking I am missing something... I am too... it is so dark you can barely see anything...
moon reflection was all we had for light...

Folks,

Talking about the foolishness a lot of us did during our youth. Well back in my single days I went to Barbados 6 times on vacation because of all the fun we had on those trips.

Well one year a big group of us were out on the Jolly Roger kind of a double decker pirate party ship. Well me and my roommate met a couple of lovely flight attendants on the second deck. Being a gentleman I offered to go to the bar downstairs to get refreshments for all 4 of us.

Well I've got 2 drinks in each hand and I'm wearing a pair of cutoffs, sneakers and a baseball hat that's it I'm looking around for the rest of them and they're not where I left them. As it turns out there's a small elevated stage and the 3 of them are buck naked. I walk over and they grab my arms and pull me up on the stage and the gals proceed to take off the cutoffs....lol.

Well it was all fairly innocent but part 2 of the story was a neighbor of one of my brothers was on the boat with his wife and managed to film the whole thing for posterity....lol.
