An original photo of several 8-inch caliber Columbiad cannons and apparently a 32- or 42-Pounder (6.4" or 7"-caliber) cannon, in captured Confederate Fort Margruder at Yorktown VA in June 1862. Being TheCannonballGuy, I particularly like this photo because it shows three types of ammunition sitting around the 32-or-42-Pounder cannon in the foreground. At the cannon's breech (back end), there is one Canister-ammo round, and six Stands Of Grapeshot. In front, under the barrel, are several "saboted & strapped" explosive cannonballs. At far left in the photo, there are two stacks of 8-inch caliber explosive cannonballs.

Click on the photo and then click a second time for enlargement to view the small details.

Check out the guy laying on the cannon barrel in the back ground. Looks like he has crawled out to the end of the barrel to look over the edge of the fort. Hes just to the left of the 2 ships in the background. You have to double click to see him.

View attachment 1530223 classic dark and light banding of an old groth sabicu tropical hardwood !! View attachment 1530228 all the cuts are quickly covered in molten wax to prevent checking and cracking. We keep the wax hot in a crock pot. sealed end grain allows the log to dry over a longer period of time. View attachment 1530237 this large piece was scary and had to be dropped with a hinge cut. It worked out good and we saved the contents of the already partially crushed trailor !! View attachment 1530239 we will end up with 14-16 logs from this tree, depending where I have to make my last cuts !! 6 pieces will be much larger than normal and will have what im hoping will be the classic ribbon figuring grain pattern. This wood is hot right now and in demand by local builders down here.

In one of my woodworking books from years past, a guy in the Caribbean built a beach house out of purple heart. Exotic woods go for $$$ and purple heart is one of them. Apparently it was abundant where he was. All timber framed.

Here is one of my best finds....
i found this log stamp hammer in 1912 Railroad logging camp, that evening I found the stamp in 1914 Darius Kinsey photo! IMG_0921.JPG The full size photo shows this Fir tree 9 ft. In diameter loaded a R.R. Logging car, with a magnifying glass I scanned the gents sitting on the tree...
IMG_0922.JPG To my shock and awe I noticed the man with no hat was holding the same log stamp I had found, possibly the exact same one. Other than the date, no other info was provided, but with this find I know the area..

Took my son to the new star wars movie. He was surprised when we got there and i upgraded the tickets to 3D and D-BOX motion/vibrating seats. They were cool and the movie was good. Happy new year everyone...[emoji2][emoji106]

Reminds me in my younger days when we tried to see how many people we could get into a phone booth, ( yes, I am old ). Poor horses.
