Yesterday morning I detected a sidewalk that was ripped-up. I found this token at about 3 inches.
I did some research and found it is an English circus advertising token with General Tom thumb, who was a famous circus performer with the PT Barnum Circus and billed as the world's smallest man.
On the front of the token is a picture of Queen Victoria and says 'Victoria Regina' & the year '1846'
The back is a picture of General Tom Thumb and says his name with '15lb weight' written below him.
The token is in fair condition. Does anyone have any other info??

Joe

Great little token! It's very collectable, but values are all over the map. Best to take the following price listings, high and low, with a grain of salt...

See # 752 at:

Scroll about 3/4 down to "Sally Bird" at:

PBK,
Thanks for the info. I checked out the sites you posted. Two of them I've seen already, but not the third.
Thanks again!!

Nice find!
You never know what you will find under sidewalks, but it's usually old.
Good Luck! Hit it some more and keep us posted.

I can't imagine there are a lot of those around.
Cool find!

Hey Wetgreenie,
Nice picture of Tom Thumb - probably when he first joined the circus.
They say he weighed 15 lbs and was 25 inches tall when he started.
Thanks!!

Joe
