I did this once last year and since this is my first box of nickels for this year I thought I'd go thru all 50 rolls "live" with y'all. Here goes nothing...

Roll #1 - Nothing older than 1964
#2 - Nada
#3 - 1961, but nothing older yet
#4 - My first pre-1960 --> 1954-D
#5 - Back to reality, nada
#6 - 1959-D
#7 - Oldest so far, 1940
#8 - 1984 Canadian
#9 - Nada
#10 - Nada, again
#11 - Third in a row with nothing, feh!
#12 - Do hear 4 in a row? Sheesh!
#13 - Was not lucky...
#14 - First keeper, and a toughie --> 1955-P, one of the eight varieties I haven't found yet this year. This find alone makes this a good box!
#15 - Back to nada
#16 - Nada again
#17 - 1941-S (Small S)
#18 - Nothing
#19 - Nada
#20 - Nothing, geez this is pretty sub-par for pre-60s.
#21 -You guessed it, nada!
#22 - Zilch, I get better results from the slots!
#23 - Ze-ro
#24 - Yet more nada
#25 - Nothing. Halfway thru and only 5 pre-60s. Pretty sorry results. The 55-P got my hopes up but unless the second half produces a silver or buffalo I might reconsider my assessment of this being a good box.
#26 - Nada, hoo boy...
#27 - Nothing
#28 - 1956-D, first pre-60 in over ten rolls
#29 - Back to zilch, isn't this exciting?
#30 - Nada. BTW, I'd even settle for a 2008-P which I haven't found yet this year. I'm getting skunked in that department too!
#31 - More of nothing
#32 - 1940-S, always nice to see older San Fran coins
#33 - Nada, ho hum...
#34 - 1952-P
#35 - Nada. That's it, gotta put some classic rock on. Lynyrd Skynyrd it is...
#36 - Still nothing
#37 - 1940 again
#38 - Same ole story...
#39 - 1957-D
#40 - Nada, heading into the home stretch...
#41 - 1946-P
#42 - 1946-P again
#43 - 1946-P yet again (hat trick!) plus a 1959-D, my first multi-pre-60 roll
#44 - 1956-D, four rolls in a row with pre-60s! How long will it last?
#45 - That's how long...nada.
#46 - Nada, are we ending on a whimper?
#47 - Looks like it, nada.
#48 - Nothing. Not...looking...good
#49 - Nada. Will I get any "last roll" surprises?
#50 - Just a 1958-D

All in all a pretty disappointing box. If it wasn't for the 1955-P I would've call it the worst of all time. I got it from Wells and it was similar to the half boxes I used to get...okay but not great. Don't know if I'll get another one there.

Thanks for searchin' along with me!

Other than war nickels, I spend all the nickels I get. Are there any worth anything? I never see Buffalo nickels in my change, and I would save those if I found any.

I'm definitely sticking to casino searching.

From $140 in nickels today I got two silvers (1942-S, 1945-D) plus a 1939. The 45-D is another first for the year, so I'm down to six needed for the whole set.

Regarding Nickels; what dates do you guys look for?

On the top of this area for coin roll hunting is a beginners guide to coin roll hunting that explains it all. To make it easier on you I copied the section on nickels. Here it is

NICKELS

Nickels are also fun to try. I save all pre 1960 nickels, but some people save anything befre 1956. Keep an eye out for buffaloes because they are still being found! Nickels are large, not that expensive and very fun to search even though the profit is generally not the greatest. If you like errors look out for the speared bison on the 2005 bison nickel. They can be worth a good chunk of money.
