You seem confused; we don't have a list of haters--you do, apparently. As to determining whether or not you object is real or not might begin with what has been requested above by many of us. As to it being genuine "from around 97 bc", where did you get that date? The date of the (Nerva as emperor) coin FoundinSC provided dates from the period 96-98 AD. To my knowledge about 15 or 16 emperors used "COS III" but none earlier that Claudius in 43 AD--so I'm open to learning of earlier instances. I believe most here would be quite satisfied with just nailing the coin's ID (real or counterfeit)-not caring about the 'feather in their cap'.

I would not recommend testing it for silver or weighing it, as this would likely involve taking it out it's rare/valuable wrap. Maybe you could paint a watercolor of it so that we can more clearly see the details?

This makes me laugh, I was trying to be polite. Its a modern fake, & I can tell you that without question (& with out the evidence of good pictures which you should have provided), I'm also a regular hater if it makes you happy? I find coins of a similar age all the time & I never wrap them in clingfilm.

TNET ID'S ARE ON THE MAP, some of the best on the Net (FULLSTOP)

We are free, thank-you & have a nice day.

Cling film (seran wrap) ????? I use lead foil, ok a bit of a bugger for pics, but as a hater, it really protects and nobody can tell me it's not what I say it is:tongue3:. All joking aside, and with respect, don't take the coin out of it's cover, just take a pic of the obverse as you did with the reverse, it's not bloody rocket science:BangHead:. Methinks you know something:dontknow:, or you would "show and tell", not hide and insult.

Knowing it provenance would help. Where did the coin come from? If purchased or traded for, what was its cost/value? If the coin passes all the visual tests (no cast marks, etc.), eventually it's weight and composition need to be determined. Even if the coin passes the weight and composition tests, it will still need to be ID-ed, and if you wish to do that online, at a minimum (IMHO) that 'precious' wrap will need to be undone and clear pics taken and posted.

My gut says modern reproduction and if that's white oxidation/corrosion on the obverse it could be a sign it's base metal and not silver. That's the stuff that tends to grow on the fake reales from at the beach, and you don't really see it on silver coins.

I think with good pictures and contacting someone who knows the coins, or an Ancient coin forum, would get you an answer fast. I tend to pass on judging ancient coins, but put it this way.... I buy a lot of coins and if a genuine one of those is worth, say a grand... if I seen yours for sale on Ebay starting at $20 I would not even bid. Hopefully I'm wrong, but only time will tell.

PS: I have seen some real ancient coins and thought they had a fake look to them which is why I never feel 100% sure about them. My worst burn for buying coins was ancient fakes, but that's just because I was being stupid and is another story! :)

I didn't understand why the one picture is so nice and clear and the other is so blurry ? And you didnt need to take it out of the protector because the clear pic is with the protector on , it seems to be a foscus issue. Its also strang that someone asking for help not only would'nt try for a better picture but ended up calling everyone haters. Stinky Poo on you the whole thing smells of trouble. Sorry but I speak my mind. It made for interesting reading though, Thank You

I feel sorry for the OP - there is a tremendous collection of knowledge here on the forum willing to help him and sadly he cops an attitude and calls us names.
I'm impressed with the maturity of the folks responding. Bravo.

There is no easier test than a clear picture of both obverse & reverse, plus an edge shot. SIMPLE. Some people really don't want help.:BangHead:

So a positive silver test to the surface is enough to convince you? I'm sure most silver fakes are coated with silver plate.

As for the video, there's no due diligence when it comes to buying a fake coin, it's 100% on the seller and an absolute refund, no questions asked.
