So, just finished sorting my latest cent bag. Pulled 7 wheats and 9 canadian. As I was going through though, I started noticing a few AU type 60s/70s, so started pulling them. Then it got weird... Prior to this, my highest total of 1960 was 37 in a bag, that was in a copper dump. This bag, I'm guessing, conservatively, there are about 400 1960Ds. It got to the point where every other one was a 60d, and they were all either the normal brown toning, or AU nothing really in between. I was just kinda laughing at first, but I literally had to just pile them all up after a while there were so many. Also found probably 50 1959 AUs as well, not to mention around 250 1970S AUs too. The rest weren't really anything in particular, a normal smattering of AU type cents from 61-80. I'm guessing someone really wanted to find the large date over small date type of the 60, and the small date S or something. Starting to microscope them all now, will post any finds. Do have another bag to go through as well, see if the trend continues (though, I'm honestly starting to get annoyed by those 3 dates).

Likely someone that searched for specific Varieties of the coins, quit searching and collecting coins and dumped them. Either that or the person doing the coin searching passed and a family member dumped the coins. I see it a lot!

Holy 1960D's batman! So yeah...just finished sorting them. 572 1960Ds. 52 of them had minor irregularities with the date, mostly like a filled in 9/6/0. A few may have been the "pegs" in the die cracking, but also a few PMD. There was a single 1960 as well, nothing special about it. Then there was these 3:

I don't know about the second one, think that's just PMD, but the other 2...could maybe be the large date over small date?

Sorted through the AU 1970S's 208 later nothing to report. Did have about 40 other S mint marks as well, nothing there either.

And 44 AU 1959's to top it off.

Those 60 D’s could be the large date over the small date. Going by those pictures, at least two of them look like it. I would inspect those 60’s closely.

Congrats on some really nice scores in the Cent bag! The first and third 1960-D Cents shown are both DDO-001's "Small Date over Large Date" Varieties. The second 1960-D appears that it may be a DDO-002 or DDO-004 "Large Date over Large Date" Variety but it would be hard to confirm without closeup pics of the whole Obverse. With that many Varieties so far shown from the Cent bag, I would bet that there are a lot more Varieties that you just have not noticed or picked up on yet. There is a total of 113 RPM (Repunched Mint mark) Varieties listed for the 1960-D Lincoln Cents. Good luck but be forewarned, if you find a bunch of 1960-D RPM Varieties, you can go blind trying to identify (Attribute) each Variety you have. I know because I had over 30 of the RPM Varieties for the 1960-D Lincoln Cents when I sold my' main Error and Variety Collection. Just kidding about going blind but you will almost feel this way.

Lincoln Cent Doubled Dies 1959-1960

Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties

Lincoln Cent RPMs 1960 (RPM-001 through RPM-060)

Lincoln Cent RPMs 1960 (RPM-061 through RPM-113)

Yeah, I noticed a few with the end of the 9 kinda weird looking, but gave up after like #300, sooooooooo sick of 1960D. I figured those two were the Small over large date, so good enough for me. I'm just casually obsessed right now, don't feel like going full out wexler on 'em all. I did keep all the 1970S, as I'm keeping any AU s ones I pull, so hoping one is a small date, going through them lil by little. Also kept the AU 59's, have liked the 1959 ones since I started for some reason, so why not.
