Hi folks, I recently moved to California from Virginia to pursue a new career in the car industry. I coin roll hunted extensively in Virginia, but since moving out here in the beginning of February, I have not been able to find a single bank that has a free coin machine. Like an addict, I am getting such an itch to coin roll hunt, but I simply cannot justify opening an account with the only bank I've seen which has a coin machine - and a 9% fee for members. I simply will not give them my business when they charge that much money to turn my money into money. Are there any California CR Hunters out there who have found good banks? If not, I would love to hear some of your all's ideas about other possible drop methods. I have been tossing around the idea of purchasing a coin roll counter that wraps for you, and turning in the wraps to banks, but it seems like a ton of work.

Sigh, I got way too spoiled having my pick up and dump banks both less than two miles from my house back in Virginia. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not on the West Coast, but if there are no free coin counters, you'll have to re-roll or pay the fee. There really are no other options if you're wanting to search any volume whatsoever.

If any left-coasters have a sweet setup, I'm afraid you'll be hard pressed to get them to share, and rightfully so. Good luck.

I live on the West Coast of Fl and we don't have any counters and I have always had to re-roll so I can't feel all that sorry for you, that or using coin-lock bags. Maybe try 1 or 2 boxes first and work your way up to what you can handle.

The people who buy, search in the parking lot and bring back have ruined the hobby. It's tough out here, you'll get the hang of it soon.

I had it when I lived in Northern New Mexico .

You're all quite right - you shouldn't really feel bad for me. I had a sweet set up in Virginia, one that many of you probably had to work hard to find. Now it's my turn to find the method to make it work. Wish me luck :)

Don't know if it could work, but I've heard someone on here pays their mortgage with their dumps. Basically spending what you search.

I deposit in plastic coin lock bags, my bank only allows this with halves. I have to wait about a week for the currier to pick up and count the halves before funds are deposited back into my account, but it avoids having to re-roll.

I dump at casinos a lot of the time, they have free coin counters in the cage. Just make sure you can leave there with the cash and not give it back to them on your way out.

That is what I do every month. I search about 3 boxes a week and deposit 5 boxes a month into my account to pay my mortgage.
The rest of the boxes (along with all the CWR and teller tray finds) are a huge hassle to dump. I have more dump banks than pick up banks. They all require all coins to be rolled and none of them take bags or have coin counters. And most of them will only take $100.00 to $150.00 at a time. It is quite a coordinated effort to dump to have the cash to pick up on a timely basis.

Not sure where you are in CA but up here (Faaaaaar North CA), I will take my halves to the Indian Casino. They are glad to take them. I do leave the gal who puts them into the counter a little something of course. Have never been turned away!! GOOD LUCK.

I live here and use coin bags. Don't know of any counters, you just have to work it out w/your bank. Average take 1 40 per box, pretty sad it used to be better but the supply is being depleted fast.
