Relic Hunting in Ohio, Found 1700's Lockplate!

My partner and I were out relic hunting here in Ohio the last few days. Actually we are trying to get some hunting in
before DIV. We hunted a Revolutionary area. My buddy Gary found, what looks like a Lion Button. I found a Flintlock side plate.
My first ever. Of course we both found our share of flat buttons and some camp lead. But we never found a musket ball, so I'm
sure we haven't found the original camp site yet. Gary also came up with a really nice Indian Scraper.

The next few days we hit several one room school houses. We both found Indian Head pennies and strange as it is, we both
found 1865 Indian head pennies and we both found 1870's coins. All in all we had a pretty good few days of hunting. I need a
whole lot more of that kind of hunting. I feel really sore, about like the first day of a DIV hunt.

You guys had a great hunt Denny. That LP is as old as you will feel after the first day of DIV-LOL. Like Gary's button too. Did you use your F75 on that hunt? HH and good luck at DIV. That elusive CW plate may show up this time. I hope it does for you my friend, Quindy.

Actually we just found this site by accident. We were researching a local area and stumbled upon it.

Hey,Florida has some great sites also. Heck, one time on St. Pete beach near a bar, I found one of the best Sleigh bells I have ever found, it was a huge one, it's number was 11. You don't find those to much in Ohio because the farmers plows distroy them.

I bet you find something really good down your way, just a little research, look at some old plate maps from the early 1800's from your area and I bet you will find something really nice.

For me the coolest is the broken piece of buckle... it's a Brit military style double 'D' :icon_thumright:

Also used by civilians, but definitely early, not much past Rev. War. :hello2:

Thanks Quindy, I am afraid you are right, I will be whipped that first day of "Diggin in Virginia". No I did not use my F-75 for this hunt, I was using my Minelab X-terra 70.

I will have my F-75 with me at DIV XV, but I will start out using my new TDI.

Thanks Again my friend, hope to see more Great finds from you and Dman this fall.

Thank You Crusader, I thought it looked like a Dog, but so many said it was a Lion. I don't know what the backmark is, I'll have to get it back from my hunting partner and take a look at it.

Thanks also for the ID on the button, just which one is it? I love your knowledge about so many items.

Thank You, I try to take pictures that relate to digging a relic in the field. Besides you get the best light out
there!

Never gave an ID of a button other than the Livery dog type, the 'spectacle' type is an early buckle.
