We realize that these rocks aren't "treasure", but we're hoping the community can help us identify them. My 11 year old daughter has a school assignment to identify 10 rocks - we randomly picked 10 rocks from the Pacific Coast (beach rocks). We both are having a hard time identifying them and wonder if we can get some help.

Here's the list of what we think they are (and the ones we are still trying to identify) - a picture of the rocks is attached:

1. Quartzite pebble- a matamorphic rock

2. ? (dont know)

3. Aplite

4. Basalt- a igneous rock

5. brown quartzite pebble- a metamorphic rock

6. Quarzite pebble- a metamorphic rock

7. Quarzite pebble- a metamorphic rock

8. ? (dont know)

9. Scoria- a igneous rock

10. Obsidian

Use a 10x loupe and check, we can't... I wouldn't give it to much weight what you hear here.

6 might be limestone - check for reaction with acid. (vinegar, citric acid - all will react with limestone)
8 might be sandstone
