Hey everyone,

Just got back Friday, from Ca. Had a great time and glad to be back in the NE though. I really love this part of the country compared to other places. Ca is new compared to where I am at. I did see a few nice parks out there that I would have hunted if I had time.

Well you know me I was ready to get back out and do some swinging after 2 weeks of no hunting. I went straight back to a old park I found a few weeks back on Saturday. Me my son and brother had a really slow day there.

We ended up with just a few wheats here and there and nothing special. Well Sunday came by and it was raining and cold but that wasn't gonna keep me in. I went back to my drawing board of sites I have researched and decided to go give another old park tucked back in a old neighborhood a shot.

Well finally I get there after getting lost a few times. I pull up and see this beautiful old grove tucked back down over a hill side. I decided to start here. Within minutes I pulled up the first wheat. It was just me and my oldest boy today he is 7.

He was swinging his ace 250 finding clad and tabs here and there. While I was pulling out wheats 6 to 8 inches deep. Well after a hr I get a nice high 70's tone thinking another wheat right. I get down about 8 inches and a nice balled up clod falls out. I take a minute to examine the find and realize exactly what I had a pop out coin ring.

It takes alot to excite me with a find. I can tell you I was excited by this one. I even called my boy over to have a look. I always wanted to find a pop out coin and today was the day. Even better it was crafted into a ring.

I then knew for sure the site was gonna produce. Lots of trash items there witch is a good sign. I continued to hunt and came home with a nice batch of finds. I only spent 2 hrs there and came home with 15 wheats a 51 rosie a 1889 indian and some cool relics.

I haven't even scratched the surface of this grove yet. I usually don't post until I have alot of finds built up. But I couldn't wait to show you all this really cool and rare dig. I think it's rare atleast. I've seen pop out barbers and cuff links but never a ring.

The coin is dated 1917. I couldn't get a good shot of the date. It is on a bend. Hope you all enjoy the story and pic of this awesome relic. I guess you know where I will be this weekend.

Thanks for looking,

HH Jer

Jer,

That ring is so cool!! Great find!!

So you didn't even swing the coil once while you were in N. CA ? You must have been real busy. ;D

Yeah, I wish I was back where you're at for a little while....getting a little tiring digging up all these common silvers here in S. CA. ;D

Thanks alot guys,

Capt, I wanted to. I had some time here and there. I would have got to hunt for a few hrs in a newer park that sat behind my mother inlaws codo complex. It was a newer biking type trail park. I did though see a really nice old park on my way to the museum of science.

This park was surounded by the town and was all grove with huge tree's all spaced out. It was a beautiful turn of the century era park. I think it was very near SF. It had all wooden victorian type homes in the area. I had to carry like 8 bags and three kids on this trip. I was gonna pack my boys ace 250 but he broke the arm cuff.

I'll be back out there again probably sooner than later. Would have loved to atleast touch the coil to the soil out there and say I did. I'd look for gold if I was in Cal.

Thanks Kim,

Looks like the new site will produce for atleast a few more weeks. Who knows I found a grove a few yrs back very close to this neighborhood and found about a 1,000 old coins there. I need to try and clear the trash at this place first to see if it still holds alot of coins and relics.

It looks very promising. The other grove was very old and indians and v nickles were coming up in the double digits every time you hunted the place. Gonna take my son and brother there this weekend and hit it hard. I'll be posting the results here in a few weeks.

Enjoy that site. As you know, groves are getting harder and harder to find.

The ring and other relics are Great!

Keep up the good work--and yes, Research is the Best.

Thanks BB,

Yes, They are getting scarce. My area seemed to be big on them back at the turn of the century. Lot of rolling slopes around here with large trees. Makes for real nice landcaping for a grove.

Your right, researching is key. You do a great job of it to man. I am finally starting to master reading old maps. It's taken me yrs of looking at them to undertsand them and be able to match them up with todays rds.

Today, no lie I came across another old grove/park today from a map of 1872. I looked at it from satelite and it was perfectly perserved. All victorian homes surrounding the site. I need to try and touch back more on some seated coinage.

I hope that 09 will be that big seated yr. It's a coin I would like to have more of. Anyone can buy a collection. Try and built one from foot work it's another story.

Thanks guys,

Yes, Mike I was on Vac to see my mother inlaw who just moved out near SF about 4 or 5 months ago. Had a nice trip but really missed the age of the NE.

Rtde, yes that one you found is nice also. I knew they were out there. Usually a few times a yr you;ll see one posted. It was nice to come over one. I just really like the art work of the piece.

Getting cold here. Hope all the rain doesn't freeze the ground up by this weekend. It sucks I am finding nice spots late in the yr. But next yr should be a nice yr.

Nana, it was my fault in the spelling. I ment to say he is 7 yrs old. To show and tell other people how younge one can be and what kind of unit they could possibly handle. He is actually gonna be 8 here feb 8th. I'm starting to get old lol. He is finally after a yr with the ace starting to find a token or wheat here and there.

HH Jer

:D Naa...I think I just mis-read your statement! :P Got Happy Birthday happy! :D

Thanks guys,

No problem Nana, your one of the nicest individuals on this forum. I can't beleive how fast kids grow and how quickly I'm getting older. I'm 27 so I'm hoping there are many more yrs of treasure hunting to come. I have 3 boys now.

It would be really cool if one day they all liked hunting and we went out as one big team. We could really find some treasure then.

The ring Ash, is a form of art work. It is a neat piece to hold in hand and just wonder how they made it so well. They made everything well back in the day.

Thanks alot guys,

Yes, The art work is something to think about. I wonder the same thing. How was this thing made so perfectly. Was this a bought item at a fair or something. Or was this hand made by someone. Or did a jewler simply make it. I guess I'll never know.

I'm trying guys. I think this yr will be a big one like a few hundred silvers. And a 100 indians. I wanna try and double my original goals I set every yr. I wanna find more seated coins. I guess we will see.
