River Beach Hunt fills Square "Walking Liberty"

Added an never found coin to my pouch today. I hit the river beach and pulled out this possibly 1916 Walking Liberty Half from right at the high tide mark. Extremely worn but I can make out the 6 and what looks to be a 1 ? Only minted these 1916 1936 1946! The silver quarter is a 1944. This half came about 6 feet from the 1946 HS 10K ring last year! The other photos shows how hard I have been working at finding good targets! Trash from this hunt and last two week hunts. The pile of sinkers have been from the last several years most from these one small section of beach that has not seen a swimmer since the 1970's (150 x 40) This is just the third time I have used the GT with the 5in coil at this location.
The ring is a 2010 find same small beach.

You give new meaning to the saying "Get the lead out."

Which is a very good and bad thing here! This beach is so badly filled with trash that no one lasts more then 10 minutes hunting it! Has been that way sine I started hunting it in 1974. Many before me dug lots of Gold out it the water. believe me when I say it a real annoyance to detect with a 8 or 10 inch coil you can't target a signal the detector is looking at 10 or more things at once. I now use a Minelab GT and 5 inch coil. I do the Sovereign wiggle across the whole beach. For years I have pulled lead out by the 10 lbs weekly just from low tide to high tide. The beach is starting to show signs of just being trashy. Sinkers are few and the lead used in building boats from the 40's is all about gone. But lots of bronze sq nails and screws remain! At times I will dig a coin and have 3 or 4 rusted nails in the scoop! The reason for this being bad is others might stroll in and give it a shot again. They are sure to find it cleaner. When I started this the beach was abandon so to speak. Now there is a nice park over looking this beach with a dock near by, lots of people see me detecting. With the economy being bad this is not going to get any town improvements anytime soon!

Tom with the good old days of one or two hunters to contend with long gone its this type of hunting that will produce good targets! I know you have seen them come down swing a few minutes and leave! This beach is one of those place that will produce gold again soon, I hope! I am done with the beach area for now and am going back in the water with the Excalibur last time I hunted the water it was 1992 and I had the 1280X There is about 50 ft of new water that was once beach back then so I am hoping to poke around the rocks and pipes old boat hulls and come out with a ring from years past. Back in the 1970's this was a happening swim beach and I saw lots of gold in scoops but I was 14 and had a Bounty hunter II and my folks were not happy I spent nearly a hundred nineteen bucks on it! :icon_sunny:
