My parents called the other night saying the venison was finally finished being processed into sausages and other tasty treats and they had picked it up. So they had to arrange a way to get my share to me. Since I had the day off, we decided to meet halfway (about 2 hours or so for each of us). I decided to do a little a coin hunting on the way up and back.

Ended up stopping by 22 banks overall.

Totals halves searched for the trip: $1906
In those halves I ended up with:
1 - 90% Kennedy (1964-D)
28 - 40% Kennedy (1965(1), 1966(1), 1967(8), 1968-D(14), 1969-D(4))
1 Foreign (Australia, 1 Florin (1943)) <--- 0.925 silver (ASW = 0.3363) ;D

Picked up 1 silver roosevelt (1964) out of a teller's tray.

And 15 Eisenhower Dollars (1971, 1971-D, 1972 Var 1, 1972 Var 3(3), 1972-D, 1974, 1974-D, 1976 Variety 2, 1976-D Variety 2(2), 1977-D, 1978, 1978-D)

Also picked up
1 - $50 bag of pennies
1 - $100 bag of nickels
1 box of nickels

There is obviously competition that has been to parts of where I was based on teller comments. Some got cleaned out a couple days ago and some a couple months ago. Most of the silver came from 1 stop.

And now for the bag of pennies.... :p

One of my least fun bags to sort. Lots of wet coins making my sorting area wet and dirty as well as fingers getting dirtier than usual. Kept having to wipe off many of the coins with paper towel.

Once all was said and done.

12 wheat pennies (1945-D, 1946, 1948, 1950-D, 1951-D, 1953-D(2), 1955-D, 1956-D, 1957-D, 1958-D(2))

21 Canadian (1952, 1956, 1964, 1974, 1975, 1976(2), 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981(3), 1983(2), 1984(2), 1987, 1992, 1998, 2002)

1 Proof Lincoln (1974-S)

Inching closer to 4000 wheats in 2007 (Now at 3955). I have two $50 bags of pennies from early december left. Going to try to get through them tonight if I can as my son (9) and my daughter (5) have friends staying overnight and are occupied so I have a little extra free time.

You can do it GMan! What is your wheat average per bag? Do you have a realistic shot?

GMan - I agree with Immy. I think you can do it also. With the quantity of coins you search, I think you can. Concentrate just on cents from here on. I hope you make it.

Good luck on the two $50 bags tonite....hope they are loaded so you can to 4000 Wheats!! That is an astronical amount!!! Kudos to you either way.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Well the first bag only had 14 (and I know I have at least one in my misc loose change that I have yet to search). So that leaves me 30 short. Odds are slim that I will get it without buying another bag. I have only had 5 bags with 30 or more all year.

If that doesn't do it, I should be able to pick up a bag or two on Monday, December 31st to slip in under the wire.

Well I finished sorting the last bag I have on hand from 12/5.

It was pretty good as it had 23 wheat pennies in it which brings my total to 3992.

I also added the 1928 that I had in loose change and a 1957-D that I had found in a bag of dimes that was not previously included. With those two my total is 3994. Now if I add my Indian head pennies in (6 total in 2007), I am at 4000 wheats and earlier. :)

Still have the remainder of my loose change to look through, but I doubt there is much in it, if anything.

Now, here's the rub. I also had 2 bags that I supposedly picked up on June 5, 2007 that are unaccounted for. I assume I must have searched them around when my hard drive crashed and I have no record of what was found in them as it was never posted. Since I know I was never skunked in pennies, I am quite sure that I have achieved 4000 wheat pennies as well, just have idea what those additional wheat pennies were.

Either way I know I got 4000 wheat AND Indians. :) Being that my goal was just more than in 2006, I easily surpassed that.

Only one more banking day left in 2007 and I happen to have the day off, so we'll see if I pick up anything else that counts in 2007. I might make a run to a few other branches of the my favorite bank that sells me bags and, if possible, fill up some half dollar bags and buy them back as I have some halves on hand that I need to cash in either way.

*** Update ****
I just went through all my loose change that had been accumulating
$14.00 dollar coins (nothing)
$124.00 in quarters (1 Canadian (1968 Nickel))
$20.10 in dimes (1 Canadian (1987))
$7.15 in nickels (2 pre-1960 Jefferson (1940, 1941)
$8.31 in pennies (3 wheat pennies (1928, 1950-D, 1957-D) 4 Canadian (1955, 1972, 2003-P, 2005))

So that puts me 1 closer to 4000 verified wheats. My MD total was at leasat 6 wheat pennies so that would also push me over 4000 found wheat pennies for the year.
