An someone please help me identify this rock? It was found at Round Mountain in Arizona whim looking for Fire Agate. I believe the white-ish rock around the edge is chalcedony. It looks like it may be a half of a geode. I am wondering what the center may be, the picture doesn’t do the center justice. It is so sparkly! Thank you in advance! Well your looking in the right direction for fire agate. What you have there is a mix of chalcedony and crystallized quartz. Chalcedony is quartz and its not uncommon to find small crystals, druzy quartz, in conjunction with it. It depends on the conditions at the time of formation. What you are looking out for with fire agate is a darker mineral sandrox, dark brown to black, layered in with the chalcedony. Look for flashes of color as you hunt. I found using a spray bottle of water to help bring out potential color but with that specimen its handsome just as it is.
