I think Canon Man is right on. Farmers have been piling up rocks for centuries to make their farming easier. I'm sure native Americans were no different but I would bet those piles you found are not more than 1-2 hundred years old. Even rock piles in forest/field conditions collect dirt and debris. Next thing there are bushes and trees growing on them. Nature is always trying to cover everthing up! :wink:
