Hello to all,

I have been a member of Treasurenet for many years but only on the Shipwreck and Metal Detecting forums. Recently my wife and I acquired some rocks that came from an estate, but not being rock collectors we don't know what some of them are or the value of the ones that are labeled. Of the 3 jars shown 2 say Boulder Opals, the third says Yowah Opals. Of the 2 tupperware containers, one is Yowah the other is Boulder. The other pics are rocks that came with the raw opals. Let me know what you think or what to do with them. I can get closer pics of the greenish colored rocks if helpful.

Thx

steve

1, 2, 4 & 5 are boulder opals, all pretty nice too.

3 & 7 sure look like rough emerald matrix. need a penny/dime in the photo for perspective, but those look like emeralds from North Carolina - don't get too excited though, none are gem-grade from what I can see :D

6 is polished amethyst

Now I have a question for you...I can haz sum boulder opals??? jkjk :notworthy:8-) I'm into lapidary and that will be one of my next projects is boulders....some of em are awesome

Nice. Looks like some nice color in those jars. Find the ones with "fire". Google some pics of Coober Pedy opals, to see what a top grade opal looks like, then you will have some idea what you have.

oh btw, I have no idea what is and isn't a "Yowah Opal" - never heard of it. Probably a variant of boulder opal

Actually a trade name for a boulder opal that comes from Yowah, in Australia or nearby.

As for value, I'd say low-average quality from what I'm seeing.
Get some to a lapidary club and make yourself a piece a jewelery, perhaps? Or go and sell it to someone who does lapidary.
PM me if you'd like an approximation of price range.
