I just saw this post, and could not believe I missed it, and what is worst is that it's not on the banner!!! :BangHead:

My vote is in already!

What fantastic find!! Congrats

To take off the green crust I would recommend vinegar and cleaning what comes off daily, or muriatic acid diluted in some water very little time. I would not recommend electrolysis though.

Congrats!! It's a definite banner find, and they deserve it

It was a realistic goal for you, as you were within the Empire & in one of the main Countries that Minted them, but the same goal in this context would be laughable. Because these were outside of the Empire in an area you would not expect. Finding these in 'Barbarian' country is a much more interesting story & will have the Historians debating their use in a non-monetary Country. As mentioned, the final use for melt down & re-use into ? was very probable, but this clearly never happened. So why didn't it happen, whats the story, hopefully more clues to follow.....

Great finds!!!!!!! I think your finds over there get underrated because people EXPECT those kinds of finds from you. Cause if one of US over here in the States found a hoard of Silver HERE like that?? I guarantee you it would make Banner. Soooo.... I vote BANNER. But thats just MY opinion. ::) And a question to you.... the green spots on the silver..... Bronze coins up against them? Maybe from the container they were in?? Well I hope there are more there that are deeper! Maybe after they plow the field again....... :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

I guess you are right. :icon_thumleft:

To the green spots I can only say: I don´t really know?
I found no roman bronze coins on that site. From the container ... maybe.
Maybe it is just small amounts of copper coming out of those silver coins?
:dontknow:
Could be Dane.... never seen a silver coins that "leached" copper out of them. BUT i've never dug coins that old so i'm not sure. The only times i've ever seen it here on my silver coins is when there's a copper right up against it.

The copper comes out of the silver when purity of silver is not extremely pure, and the copper is more abundant at some spots on the silver. The older the silver normally has a little more copper in it...even some cobs have some copper in them!

Re: Roman Silver Denar Coin Hoard !!! - UPDATE: now 7 coins. New picture !

Stunning! I just nominated this set of ancient silver for Banner and I hope everyone will vote the same! It is stunning to find seven Roman coins 2000 years old in Denmark so close together, even if not technically a hoard. And his drawing shows how ploughing over time could have spread them from their original spot, so likely a hoard. Certainly nobody back then was "sowing" silver coins in a row to grow more! So most likely a hoard in a pouch or whatever. Their story will never be fully known, but I've certainly enjoyed seeing the excellent photos and reading about their history. HH Andi
