We discovered the pottery spread on this field last year but never detected it. The owners partner is interested in starting detecting & in a few days had to hand back the detector he was let. He had braved this storky field yesterday for 1.5 hours without a find (rubbish only).
We walked him out to where I thought we should start & my first dig was a Roman Coin. It took him some time but he got his first (after my 10th), & ended the evening with a really good Sestertius. So he was well happy.
I was equally happy with my Saxon Strapend (circa 8th Century)
I only did 2.5 hours & Dad was helping our friend dig & GPS.
We will be back when conditions improve & will lend him our spare. Its going to be a good site
