In what part of the Country did you find it? If the field doesn't have similar size and shape stones put there by geological processes, then your round stone is probably an artifact or at least a manuport. Looks like a nice find ! HH

Nice round stone. I have seen 3 things it could be.
1. Game Stone or Mano
2. Carpet ball
3. Natural concentration like a geode.
Whatever it is nice find

It was found in northern Illinois the field has a lot of stones and boulders but nothing is like that one the research I have done suggests that there were Indians in that area up until the mid 1830 I was thinking some type of mano thanks for the info

I'd go with gameball. No reason to shape a mano into a ball. On the other hand, well shaped game balls are a class of artifact. However, I just noticed one of my guide books mentioned they may have been used as large maize grinding stones rather then for games.

I have seen in a collection a local person found a round grinding ball with the matching mortar bowl. He found it on his property. He brought it in to me to see it. So yes they did have them in a round shape.
