Round Two Virgin Cellar Hole

Back the the cellar hole I discovered a couple of weeks ago. No coins this time but I did manage another 7 buttons. That's 14 buttons in two trips! All appear to be from the early 1800s. A couple of the buttons from this trip were interesting. The most interesting being an 1820-30s Argentinian Navy button. I've spoken with a well known expert in uniformed buttons and he reports that this is the earliest Argentinian Navy button he has ever come across. The front depicts an anchor with a sunburst and liberty hat on a pole. The backmark reads "STANDARD TREBLE GUILT." The other interesting button is 20mm in diameter and has a backmark with an eagle holding arrows in one claw and stars above its head. On the other side of the shank there are some sort of branches. It appears to have a plain front but I included a photo just incase. Thanks for looking!

Wow Keith - I was flabbergasted when I saw your button! I found one of those over 10 years ago, and after posting it everywhere and sending it to several button experts nobody could ID it. I was thinking maybe French navy, but obviously that's not what it is. And yours is definitely a much better example than mine, and now I can see what the backmark really is. Congrats on an awesome find, and thanks for some long-awaited info. And BTW - how did buttons like this get lost here in the US?

From what I read on line the Argentinian Navy was official in 1810 and due to a lack of knowledge they brought in lots of other countries to help advise. I'm guessing someone who lived on that property was involved in the revolutionary war or War of 1812 and was called over to Argentina as an advisor. Or vice versa, Maybe an Argentinian was brought over to work with the U.S. Navy and was temporarily residing on that property. Those are my two favorite theories anyways! Been a hell of a button year for me and after finding 3 GWs and now this Argentinian Navy button I've realized coming up with theories on how these buttons end up where we find them is almost as fun as actually finding them!
