russy helped this morning with the tractors
then we walked for an hour
picked up a few thingys then got to dang hot

that KRF scraper in the first image is very small, just a bit larger than my thumbnail
i will resize the image to actual on the 3rd reply it should be actual size
most of the scrapers we find are quarter size but this little one Russy found is the size of my thumb nail

it is a flaking tool that has been broke
possibly by farm machinery, or maybe from heavy use
now the bone piece on the right side of the piece is a broke flaking tool
now here is the actual sized image of the small KRF scraper
only about one out of every couple doz are that tiny
the ND historical society center's museum has a display the says these little ones are the result of a bigger one that has been continually resharpened over and over and just kept getting smaller and smaller until it was too little to use any more and was discarded and ended up on the midden (trash heap) which is where russy found this little baby
this site has a few middens on it

Another question Steve. What is the yellow colored stone under your walking stick in the 7th photo a core a waste flake or what ?

believe it or not it is a piece of TRSS w/a heavy patination on it
TRSS is gray chert
TRSS stands for "tongue river silicified sediment"
it is prolific on this site and was most likely brought from up north east of where the knife river flint mines are
or possibly from the badlands in western ND or maybe eastern Montana or northeast Wyoming
that is all i (think) i know about it
i will try to post an image of a larger core stone of this same material with the cortex removed that russy found this morning
i will see if i can find it

Great finds bro,great finds indeed!was there any evidence of halfted scrapers being that you find so many scrapers and/or what are thought of as slotted knives just a thought

never seen any hafted type scrapers frank
