I started collecting them too. I've got Augusta, Columbus, and Albany Georgia so far. Also, a St. Joe very similar to the ones you posted. I figure I'll make a patio out of them. Just need a few more hundred of them.

Cool bricks. I like finding them but can't ever get a name on one. I found a area today where a house was. The bricks were 2-4 ft deep in a 30 ft square but couldn't find any with a name looks like all were made on site probably.

Two bricks in two days, might have to start collecting bricks! haha
Todays brick is from The Stiles and Hart Brick Company in Bridgewater MA
Yesterdays brick is still waiting to be positively identified although it is possibly from Custom Brick and Supply Co.of Raleigh, NC. Thanks to Mackaydon for pointing me there!

http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/445684-old-brick-says-sanford.html

Sanford is the name of the brick manufacturer, and Custom Brick & Supply is one distributor that used to supply Sanford bricks. Sanford Brick is no longer in business, as I believe it was purchased (in the 1980s?) and merged into a new company called "Cherokee Sanford", which has since been sold. Your brick is the type that would have been used to build walls, and undoubtedly was manufactured in the North Carolina town of Sanford, which is famous for brick manufacturing.

I have seen diggers repurpose these and make paths in their yards. it looks really neat with the old handmade bricks. I occasionally will haul out an early brick or two and always if one is marked.

Interesting thread. Any of you ever hear of or see a brick that's marked CRUSH. I asked this in my own thread this morning in the RELICS forum, but no response.

Thank you Etex. I've lived around here for twenty eight years and never knew that. I guess that was prior to the coal mine.

Eyeballed this tiny brick at Ginger, Tx. where there was a brick company. It is either a advertising brick or salesman sample or made for the children at Ginger

That's a nice one, etex. I actually have heard of that brick company, thanks to the historical marker. Good eye to find that.
