✅ SOLVED Saddle Insignia Meaning

I have this leather neck cover that is highly decorated but I have no idea what it means. It’s probably just post Civil War, but the letters are the type from the Civil War period. Any thoughts?

I don’t even know if it is for a horse or a motorcycle. Any thoughts first on it’s purpose?

The O above USY might be from below between the B and C. (It is wired in place top and bottom where it is currently. Other letters are not wired in place but ride on a stud or studs type rivet?)
USY might not be what the letters mean but is what comes up in a quick search.

I thought the same thing with the random O (Color and size), and came up with the same USY as you.

Thought Jake Bockway and Lake Bockway.....

Could be an optical illusion but the BOCKWAY letters look smaller than the AKE and USY letters.

Letters/words names whatever could have evolved in being added over time.
I tried Lake. Didn't try Jake. Good idea.

Agree with some the info stated here, However the USY you mentioned was founded in 1951. This item appears much much older than that. Also the O is not only smaller but a different color than the rest of the lettering.
Need someone to decipher the missing letters and go from there.

I agree. I will say I am thinking this is a rodeo or advertising piece, someone traveling and performing or selling. No idea of region, but name would help.

Also, on the last name, I seem to see the remnants of “E” where everyone thought “O” might appear after “B”

It does not lay flat. The back is a plain version of what you see and the bottom is unfinished leather with no additional attachments or marks. The part with the designs is 20”x24”

I believe with the Horseshoe Symbol this item was a Vintage Saddle Bag

I've made and repaired many types of saddle bags. Vintage style and newer.

This is not a saddle bag.
1- There's no actual bag.
2- Saddle bags do not have huge holes in them.
3- The finger/florel holes fit over the Hame horns.

If you look up and research flat style Hame cover/housing you can find even newer items like this.

Name should have read: Jake Bockway...blown up one can faintly see where an "O" letter was?
I would suppose Jake would have been Christened "Jacob"...the Bockway name is noted in American History, but I was unable to locate a Jake.

I am of the opinion that this item was used for "Show" purpose, possibly for Parades.
It may be that the holes which have parts missing may have been used to hold a Saddle Flag Pole Holder?

I think it is Jake Buckway. Here is a story from when he died in 1947. Note that it mentions he was a driver of a six-horse exhibition team at the Ogden Union Stockyards = OUSY.
