congrates on the gold its always nice to have that first peice of the year as of the other peice if it were me id look for that k gold mark if not found i would then use those rare earth magnets c if it sticks if it does u know its not gold if it doesnt well then 2 choices bring it to a jewler get apraised or scrap or keep, second if it doesnt stick u could take a small file to a hidden spot that will reveal the metal underneath the tarnish by the looks of it dont think its gold however it mayb gold filled or something hard when its not in front of u

My guess would be that it is brass. It should clean up beautifully to a shiny goldish color.

Yea I think it is brass and wondering if it is old military medal or pin. The park is oldest in my city and down the street from the old train station. Maybe someone help me Id it.

certainly not gold (as Susan says). Just something brass or copper that .......... if you scratch/brush it up enough, gold color shows through. Just junk that most of us just pitch. Sorry to say ...

It looks like a handle of some sort but it's hard to say without something in the photos to show scale. Hit it with a little soap and water and see if there are any markings on it.

When you pull gold from the ground, It looks like shiny gold. Gold does not corrode! A chemical reaction in the ground could coat it, but it would chip off and be shiney underneath. I pulled this ring from the ground, and it has been there over 20 years and I just rinsed it off in the sink with water to remove the dirt. Frank... ruby gold ring 700.jpg
