Hello Friends, :hello:
Hope you all had a relaxing Thanksgiving long weekend! :occasion14:

I hit the 'Scarborough Park' for 5 hours again today, lots of older pennies, but only one silver quarter. I don't think this park has ever been hunted before as the finds are numerous and date between 1940 and 1960. The surrounding neighborhood dates from the 1930's to '40's. Found a cool Zippo lighter, that was about 2" down. Then found the 1941 Silver Quarter, followed by the gold plated ring! :'( Total cash found, about $ 2.00 :-\

Hope to get back there again on Thursday or Friday, as there's still a lot of area left to cover!

Happy Hunting,
Dave

Cool lighter, and nice score on the quarter. I've never seen the cents with the bird on them only the ones with the leaves on them, cool. Looks like a fun hunt. HH

Thanks for your post Jeff! These parks start to all look the same after a while! :laughing7:

I took the lighter apart and it looks like it could be put back in working order very easily. Seeing as it was only two inches down, it probably was a pretty recent drop. I don't smoke so I'm considering selling it. :icon_scratch:

Best of luck to you!

Thanks buddy, our "cents with the bird on them" where a commemorative coin series minted in 1967 to celebrate Canada's 100th centennial year.

Happy hunting to you as well,
Dave

Thanks Doug! :icon_thumright: As I'm swinging in this park all I keep thinking is, "silver ring, silver ring come on silver ring!" Maybe I should change that to 'gold ring' instead! :laughing7:

Best of luck to you Doug,
Dave

Congrats on the Silver!
One of the few quarters i've dug was a Canada, (Who'd have thought this was Silver?) Gotten a few Rock dove cents too, & one Mackeral Dime.
Remember the '67 Mackeral Dimes & Cougar Quarters are .500 Silver ;D
Hope to get a dig myself soon! HH to ya!!

Thanks very much Herbie!
It's a terrible thing what happens to some coins while they're in the ground! :o That quarter looks positively ugly! :laughing7: So far this year I've only found the '67 doves and one lonely rabbit nickel . . . I wasn't aware that out 1967 silvers were only .500 silver! :icon_scratch:

Thanks for the info buddy,
Dave

Those coins are in beautiful shape Jim! :notworthy: I always considered early Canadian coins very plain as they often were designed around the British coin designs of the time. I love finding US Barbers & Walkers up here! :icon_thumright: So far this year I've found 2 Barber dimes (1900 & 1916) and 1 1917 Walking Liberty Half! ;D I've haven't dug any 'Victoria' silver yet; my earliest so far has been a 1907 'Edward'. Here's a pic of the Walker after pulling it from the ground!

Thanks for posting your pics!
Dave

1967 Canadian Centennial coins

Many assume this year they all were minted with .500 silver content. Not so.

The $1.00 and the 50¢ pieces were only minted in .800 silver.

Only the 25¢ and 10¢ pieces were minted in both .500 & .800 . Late in the year they changed from .800 to the .500 as the price of silver was rising. And from the numbers minted it looks like approx. one half of each kind were coined.

1967 10¢.... .800 mintage was 32,309,135
1967 10¢.... .500 mintage was 30,689,080

Nice finds! Keep it up and let us know what you get. Love to see Canadian silvers.

Thanks for that info snowdogg,
now I need to find out how to determine which mine is,
US coins were always changed in some way to show weight or content changes.
Anyone know of a way to tell the difference on a mackeral dime?
I have a test kit, but would rather not rub the coin. HH all!
