well I am new to detecting but realized I am going to find a ton of scrap metal lol

I dug up old tines from tractors, parts, etc along with a hammer head and just more metal scrap.

I decided to get a 5 gallon bucket and just leave it in the garage and throw all my smaller scraps into it....the ones I decide to carry out of the hunt. Probably take me a while to fill it up and won't be giving me much cash when I haul them to the scrap metal yard, but heck, gas money right?

anyone else keeping stuff to cash in for scrap like this? I figure alot of ya would be doing it.

I keep the copper, brass, and lead. The rest of the iron and steel would take hundreds of pounds to add up to anything, and even then it probably wouldn't pay for the gas money to get it to the scrap yard.

I'll remelt the lead for my own jigs when i find time

Copper and brass go to the scrap yard when i have a fair amount.

Yep, do it all the time, on my prowling, detecting trips, i pick up everything metal, it usually takes me about three weeks to get a load to sell, comes in 'right handy'. :P

I do. When I get enough, I'll sort out the copper and brass etc. and take the rest to the dump and put it in the scrap metal dumpster.

I keep copper, lead, brass & aluminum (cans & pulltabs)..... for recycling.

I also scavenge for scrap metal outside of my metal detecting hobby.

i keep my copper and lead that i find. i have found four, 2lb bars of lead before.

I found a brick of lead one time - I thought it was silver when I scraped on it in the field.
