First let me say "Happy 4th of July" to everyone! Well I received 20 boxes Tuesday and spent the day yesterday going through the boxes. Like I posted in my first post on this forum, my realistic goal for 20 boxes is to fine hopefully 100 silver half's. It's getting more difficult to fine silver these days as most of you have stated on your posts, and it's know different where I live. OK, so much for the rambling. The totals with picks are as follow:

117 40%

1 1976 Silver Half

6 1964 Kennedy Half's

6 Ben Franklin Half's

3 Walking Liberty Half's

1 Canadian Silver Half (1943)

TOTAL: 134 Keepers Consisting of 118 40% and 16 90%

Very nice!
I wish I had 5K lying around to buy that many boxes at once. I have to do them 2 or 4 boxes at a time. but I do get 6 to 8 boxes a week.

Ron not picking on your math but... I'd go borrow 5K even if I had to pay 10-18% interest if I could get 20 boxes for that price.

Nice job Oldred, and be sure to wash those hands! Elberton is about 50 miles away from me, beautifull part of the state close to S.Carolina. Have not had a chance to check out the banks over there yet, and if you have been there lately, I won't waste my time!!Ha... Good luck!

You'e righht, it is a beautiful area of the state. Elberton is the Granite Capital of the world; hard to believe but true. I have thought about doing some CRHing up there, but when I saw a couple of posters close to that area, I decided to just leave the silver to someone else. Your right about the hands, man do they get dirty. I look like I just spent the day in the coal mines. My dad was a coal miner, and I was raised in the coal fields of West Virginia and Western Virginia. Good luck hunting!

LJ - You robbed me of 17 keepers. Just kidding! It was a total of 134 keepers which adds to my vault total. Hope you and the family are enjoying the 4th.

Actually, even though you got 134 keepers, in my humble opinion that is slim pickings for 20 boxes.

Better luck on your next 20!

Your right, but when you multiply this by three times per week than 4 times per month that's a lot of silver. Like other posters have stated "it's more than I had yesterday". Now, if I had to make a living doing this, I would be in trouble. This hobby is special to me because it gives me and the wife a hobby that we can share together. This is the first hobby I've taken up that the wife enjoys. If I only fine 50 per 20 boxes I would still do it based upon the pure enjoyment we get out of this hobby, and there have been cases where I have found less than 50. There is also days where we have found 200-500. Thanks for wishing me better luck on the next 20!! Best of luck on your CRHing!

wow.if u got banks that will ship 10k at a time u either have very kind bankers or u have a LOT of money in there bank. most i can get banks to order is 8 boxes [4 grand] at a time without fees.

I wish I had a lot of mony!! I have wonderful banks where I live. I have one bank that orders 20K for me each week. I pickup 10K on Friday and 10K on Monday. I currently have six other banks that will order 10K for me anytime I need it. I alternate with them each week. I dread the day when the fee word comes up, but I'm sure it will happen eventually. The bank who orders the 20K for me, also orders 2K more to keep in their vault in case I need a few extra boxes to search. It's hard to fine a nicer situation than this.

I'm probably the closest, but I haven't been up there yet. I'm only able to take trips on weekends right now, so most banks are closed. Great geology though.

I'll be heading into "your" neck of the woods on Saturaday to sightsee and hit banks, so it's only fair that you poke around here. ;) I'll keep you updated if you do the same. :)
