Seashell pin?

Hello I found this today at a site in south shore mass. It's around the same size as a large cent but slightly bigger. Its deafiantly heavier though. I'm thinking its possibly something to do with a horse tack or saddle many? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

That is super cool and beautiful. What type of metal?

It could be a concho for a horses bridle.
