Seated & Foreign Silver + more!

Hi to all.. well I havent been detectin much for last couple months :( with flood duty in Iowa, and also Hurricane Gustav more recently detecting time has been limited.

Today however has paid off for me. It started with visiting my youngest daughter while the preschool was visiting a playground. While swinging her I noticed the street had been torn out along with part of a drive and sidewalk.

After we left you can imagine what I went home to get :icon_scratch: I also grabbed my boots because it was going to be a muddy one!

The excitement was building because the street was adjacent to a old school building. I started along the sidewalk area. The first couple targets were junk. The third however sounded pretty sweet on the GSII.
I cut a muddy plug the best I could and saw silver in the hole" how awesome" I was expecting a barber
but was :o to see a 1877 seated dime. I continued on only two sweeps and heard a decent signal, dug down and out popped a shield nickel. Now I was pretty pumped! Later I found some other targets including a old bent ring, the newer jewelry piece, the button also.

As i continued into the street I wasn't getting any good signals, not sure why but I know they dug down to the pipes, and I could see them and hear them in my earphones :'(

As a last thought I hit the side street area running the coil up and down the sides. I heard a small signal in the muddy bank. 8) I dug into the side and let the earth fall to ground level. After diggin I couldnt find anything, but finally saw a glint of silver, :-* small silver smaller than a dime at first I thought it was spanish.
:tard: but I saw 1942 LOL. Later I found a chewed up aluminum token in one of the piles. This was about it since it was getting late.

What a day though.... here are some pictures.

Love those sidewalk projects!
I'll bet that there will be more to find once they grade and level out the boulevard.
Keep an eye on it and hit it again and again.
WTG on the seated. Were you able to make out a date on the shield nickel?

Good luck!

bk .. seems the reverse almost always holds on better than the obverse on the shield nickels. A bath in peroxide,or just cleaning it better might bring out a discernable date.

Jazdo those are some pretty cool finds.
Where I live they are getting ready to tear up some old ground pretty soon... I hope.
Maybe I will do as good as you did there.
Again great finds!

Love the seated dime. Interesting - the 1877 on the dime looks identical to the date as it appears on the Indian head penny of the same year (with the slight variations noted between the "7"s) . Is that typical ? - to use dies with the same shape numbers on different denominations?
