thats awesome!! you dont often see seated dollars being dug, i think this is the first i have ever seen! a dollar was a lot of money in the 1840s! someone must have been pretty upset over losing that one! just a great find! :o

Say, if you post pics of the pottery shards I may be able to identify them. From your description, they may be Mocha ware, which was popular in the 1840's.
