Hello All,
Foxhound and I got together this afternoon for a little old-fashioned house-site hunting. Once we got on the site, we started getting some good brass, lead, and button finds. There were lots of chunks of old brick strewn about the field, so we knew that this one could be a good place. We both made some interesting finds--one of my most interesting ones was this large piece of brass (perhaps part of a brass bed?).
Foxhound and I simultaneously dug pieces of spoons (the only spoons found today). Mine was a deteriorated pewter one. I also nabbed a small brass thimble, as well as what I figured *could* be the only coin found on the site--a 1917 wheat that had very little wear on it. I found a large "dandy" button that I was praying was a colonial copper or at least a Large Cent when I got it out of the hole. Later on in the evening, I found two tombac buttons (one with brass shank intact). These two were found right about darkfall, as well as a button that I originally thought was pewter (due to its decrepit condition)--it actually turned out to be a two-hole button, and much newer. Here are the button finds:
Saving the best for last--I got a signal that pegged around brass or a little higher on my Fisher. I popped out the plug and saw a tiny glimmering disc in the plug. At first, I honestly thought this was a 1/2 Reale, due to its thinness...when I pulled it out of the ground, I could tell that it was a SEATED LIBERTY HALF DIME! YEAH!!! It has honestly been a long time since my last half-dime find, and I was thrilled to get another one finally. The coin is an 1841-O, and it has been holed. So...almost a Capped Bust. Let me just say that in my area, this is housesite huntin' at its finest! Thanks to Foxhound--I ALWAYS enjoy hunting with you, but today was a special day.
You'll certainly want to check out Foxhound's finds--just follow the link below

And now some photos of what I found:
I couldn't wait to clean the dime, so I don't have a photo of it before cleaning--but I think Foxhound might have a photo on his cell phone--please post it if it's still there, buddy!
So here she is, cleaned with a camel's hair make-up brush:
Regards,
