The "Virgin" site that Civilman and I hit last weekend for the first
time was far and few between on finds this morning. Actually, there
was nothing. Monkeyboy joined us at sunrise for what we hoped to
be a great hunt.
We hunted for a couple of hours and got NOTHING, I mean NOTHING.
We decided to jump on the railroad tracks and head north.....NOTHING.
So we got back on the tracks and headed to a site south.....NOTHING.
We, meaning, I, was getting a bit frustrated. Here Joe and I invited
Monkeyboy out and couldn't even pull a bullet.... WAIT, Monkeyboy
got a rivet!!! :-\ ???
We decided to head back to the original site, it was on our way OUT to
the trucks.
We were picking through the nothingness and then I got a hit that was
actually positive. 58 three ringer. YES!!! Up and to the next tree base...
HIT!! This one was bouncing all over the place, but what the heck, nothing
else was hitting. 5 inches down and...... 58 three ringer!
Before I buried the hole, I got another signal solid positive, 84-90.
I started digging and hit a root. I asked Monkeyboy and Joe to come check
the hole before I tried to get through the root. They both got the same
thing I got. Monkeyboy said, "Sounds like a plate on its edge.
So, I went to digging. 20 minutes, two shovels, one lesche, and
a broken pair of pruning sheers (Sorry Monkeyboy) I was at 11 inches
deep. With the help of the pinpointer, I finally located the find..........
a US boxplate.....on edge....Kudos to Monkeyboy on the call!
LAST WEEK I got my first plate out of this same site!!!

By the way. I dug this at the site last weekend and didn't know what
it was. Monkeyboy ID it as a shoulder scale. Another first for me.

Thanks Joe! I didn't hear much of anything, to tell you the truth.
I remember seeing the plate in the hole, and then I was posing
for a picture...nothing in between. LOL

Those days are so frustrating, hours of nothing. Takes that kind of persistence of yours to dig up something amazing. Excellent find!

What kinda of detector are you using and would someone explain to me what this "84-90" is. I have seen this kinda of numbers in many posts. My detector (Garrett GTA500 doesn't have anything like that on it, just a bunch of words at the top of the screen, nickel, dime, rings, quarter, etc.

The Whites detectors use what they call a VDI scale.
It is a series of numbers from -95 to +95. All metals
fall somewhere in that range.
