I'm going to start going thru my old postage stamps (mostly U.S.) that I've been collecting for 30yrs.

How should I sort or catergorize them? By year, theme, denomination, color, size, any other?

I'll definately seperate mint from used, gum and no-gum. Coils, pre-canceled etc.

How do I begin?

DigginItUp,

all you would need is the Scott Catalog #.
You can use the description that Scott uses.

Also you may want to take a look at selling
them at:
http://www.stampwants.com/index.php

Should note that most US stamps from the
last 30 years are a tough market.

have a good un.....

Thanks for the interest Sherm!

Well in one week, I've sold a set of older FDC's from the 1950's, one 1940 stamp album and a pair of Love Stamps posters = $30 total this week. It's a good start to a new machine! ;D

My advice would be to sell them as an assortment showing the highlights. I sold a "collection" of stamps both valuable along with worthless ones. I think by throwing them all together i made out better than I would have by itemizing.
