Does anyone own any of these?
After hearing Clark Howard talk about these recently, I went to the bank today and purchased a $100 Series I Bond. The lady at the bank actually tried to talk me out of buying it, stating that the fixed rate on these bonds was currently at ZERO. I told her that I was under the impression that the rate was also tied to the inflation rate, and being that I expected inflation to rise significantly in the near future I wanted one regardless of her advice. I ended up driving across town to purchase one from another branch.
I think you are limited to $5000 worth of these per calendar year, and I am thinking about buying a small bond ($25-$50) every week or so.
I know many will say that I should have just bought some ASE's or 90% junk silver, but I am trying to diversify a little here. If nothing else I got a cool looking note with MLK on it lol!
Any advice would be appreciated. I tried to contact my big-wig banker uncle about this, but the $#@*% won't call me back.....
