Hi guys,

Quit my pond today (the med sea) and went with my buddy to have a land detection on very old sites... Had 2H hours of hunt with CTX 3030 and Excalibur II and we were lucky:

Sestertius or Sesterce (Roman Coin) in EXCELLENT SHAPE "AS de Nimes" from -8 to -3BC => 2020 years old...

Watch the video of the hunt in 4k!

Phase 1: Dig & first clean
as-de-nimes1.JPG asdenimes5.jpg as-de-nimes-f.jpg as-de-nimes-r.jpg
I have just found them 3 hours ago, it will take me a few days to clean them, especially the roman coin, 2000 years of corrosion takes some time to be cleaned.

Phase 2 = after a deeper cleaning + careful sanding

x1 1865 Vittorio Emanuelle II "5 centesimi" => very rare version (italian)
x1 1902 French republic Dupuis 5Cts

I will post the video of this detection shortly + the coins when they will be cleaned!

I went back to the same place and found an other coin. It is smaller an looks from the same period.

Unfortunatly it is hard to read something on it.

It has some relief, but I can't really see something. Any idear to help?

Dads thoughts:
The coin seems to be โ€˜2 Victories standing either side of an inscribed shieldโ€™ type from either the Constantine AD 320s or Magnentius AD350s periods.
Of course that means it would be either a Follis or a Centenionalis of circa 20mm plus normally

Location, location, location. I know a few guys that would give there left ball to hunt there!

That is amazing that you were playing my all time favorite song for your background music, my second favorite song is done by Jimi Hendricks!

Excellent Treblehunter  well, I just can tell you it is not in Jersey City .... and not in Hoboken near the Black Bear (if it still exist LoL)... You have to cross the Atlantic, turn south and it is not far from the a major sea surrounded by many "small countries" :laughing9: I'm going to detect underwater this week-end, will post a video if I find things of interest

You are absolutly right, it's a Constantin from this period 250 ->400AD. I have checked the size and weight and compared it to other I have and for sure it is one of them.

I'm going to electrolysis it try to have an ID...

Thanks a lot CRUSADER !!! :notworthy:
