After getting gold my last 2 outings - Got out one more time - pickens were slim - locals getting all the fresh drops
had to change things up and go for the older stuff - found a small
spot that was producing stuff over a foot down and gridded it - was surprised to
get the 2 silver quarters - they were really thickly caked at first but after
breaking the edge off of both the crust came apart and theycame out pretty good for salt water finds
guessing other item is silver relig. medal

Nicely done on the three silvers.
The silver sure gets encrusted that's for sure. Is that always the case, or is it, some does some doesn't get crusty? I'm referring to stuff that has being in the water for a few decades or longer.

Any silver day is a good day, congrats Casper

Congradulations Nice finds!

It depends on the soil under the water - in salt water up here in New England - Id say about 90% of my silver gets encrusted
Many real old silver coins come out caked and can look 3 times thicker - many when crust is broken off - you can be left
with a silver razor blade = metal is so thin that you can shaved with it
where these 2 quarters were found - down to the left about 1/2 a mile I have found silver coins with no crust
just different shades of gray - down a mile to the right of this spot = coins that are double or more encrusted.
there is yellow sand and there is black and gray sands which make a difference - also if you find silver
near or in clam beds it can add to the deterioration of silver and in some cases copper coins also -
i think that comes from the urine from the clams 0r whatever they produce as waste
fresh water in most cases just causes silver to tarnish
if i were to hit those 2 quarters with some water and baking soda - i'm sure they would clean up a little more
but i usually just toss in my display case

Nice job on the silver! :occasion14:
