I went back to the same TS I went to this AM that I got the paper weight from and I was walking around and then I saw these 2 salt and pepper shakers. I was thinking, great more plated or EPNS shakers, nope real deal! Sterling Columbia Weighted. These shakers are 4 inches high and 2 inches wide at the base, are glass lined and weigh 343 grams combined! I took the 2 sterling caps and they weigh 7 grams combined by themselves. I am thinking I could get a little over an ounce sterling to 1.5 ounces sterling out of theses. They are in rough shape, would any of you flip them on ebay as shakers? There is nothing special about Columbia Silver Co. out of Brooklyn NY. HH

Oh yeah, I paid $2

I've been looking for sterling salt shakers regularly. Have not found any. Saw a pair of pewter ones, but that's as close as I've gotten. :(

I have no experience with selling them, but here is my 2 cents: I'd always try to sell them as what they are before scrapping if they are in good condition. Worst case scenario you waste a little time (assuming you're listing free). Best case scenario you wasted time and then silver spot price tripled. :laughing7:

See the salt damage on the one shaker, can that be cleaned up or is it premanantly discolored? HH

I've scrapped a few of those. In general, the sterling is a LOT thinner than what you find on other weighted items. I wouldn't expect to get even 1/2 ounce from those.

Do you mean Columbia weighted Sterling shakers? I am at 7 grams just with the lids so it will be more than 16 grams

Most of the ones I have scrapped were Duchin. I don't remember scrapping a Columbia set. I understand the lids weigh 7 grams. It's entirely possible they will weigh more than 1/2 ounce total counting the lids.....but I wouldn't count on it.

Total weight 343 grams
weight of the glass lining: aprox 35 grams (I broke apart the clay carefully to pull the tubes out, undamaged)
Total sterling: aprox 35 grams or 1.04 ounces.

I used a postal scale to weigh it so it could be + or - 1 gram. HH

Columbia sterling seems like a heavier brand of sterling shaker.
