She isn't pretty, but I still love her! A VERY toasted 1809 USA Half Cent

I hit the Florida east coast beaches again yesterday, and came away with precious little clad and an unusually large amount of can slaw and pull tabs. My only keeper for the day was a VERY toasted 1809 USA Half Cent. (It was in the dry sand near the base of a sand dune which was vertically sheared last year by the hurricanes.)

She was far too gone to have any numismatic value, so, yes, I DID clean her up a bit to bring out some detail. (I used a combination of a rock tumbler and Andre's Pencils.) Below are the before and after pictures. And again, I know she's ugly, but she's my child, so be polite!

I've found about 10-12 large cents, but have yet to find a half cent. Great job! I love the classic head design best, and this is it.

Wow! I think you cleaned that up pretty good to get as much detail as you did. Sweet! Nice work. HH

Thanks, it's all thanks to what I've learned from the posts of other TNet members! The knowledge base on this site is incredible.

Congrats on the great coin and on the clean up job you did with it. It doesnt matter how crusty it is, you found it and its yours. I found an 1804 Half Cent years back, and it was in bad shape as it came from a field. I could at least identify it, and it was the first and only one I have ever found. Display that baby proudly !

Nice find! On the positive side, you can still read the date And the words half cent . I have dug coins that were totally wasted round disks.
