It appears to be an inner ear bone of some type of fish.

I knew they could sense sound.... We have to sneak past my sons bedroom cause his fat fish push their faces to the glass and wiggle... Soon as they hear a voice .... Too cute... Hence how they got so chubby

Ever get the rocks out of a drums head?

The "rocks" in a drum fish head are a sort of over developed hearing aid. They are called otoliths, and are actually a bone formation, and are similar to the inside of oyster shells or freshwater muscles. Both freshwater and saltwater varieties of the drum have these, and were used in olden times as jewelry or good luck charms.

These are all inner ear bones.
All fish have these. Some bigger proportionately to the size of the fish... like in this case where the drumfish use low frequency sound as a communication.
Cutting one of these in half and counting the Rings since they grow in layers is the most accurate way to age a fish.
They recently changed regulations on sea bass down here because they found out it takes them far longer to reproduce than they thought. It was due to these that they were able to find that out.

Larson I don't know what to say. I have got to go to the Dakota's at some point in my life. Even the rocks you cats pull from a fish head is pretty. I wander if the rocks in my head are that nice looking?? Lol! Probably not. On a serious note, have you tumbled those or polished them in any way?

It's a oyster shell that was chipped and possibly holes drilled in. I assumed used as jewelry, also have another oyster shell that what modified.
