I found this yesterday very near to where I found the broken point a few days back...is it a shell bead or piece of jewelry? I scoped the hole and it is conical. I haven’t ever seen one and have no knowledge about NA jewelry. It has some blue and green flash in it like abalone but many other shells do to...context is right but my knowledge is lacking...help me out! I have seen several pieces posted like that. They were posted by people in the western states, you have a fantastic piece.

A lot of modern costume jewelry has shell pieces like yours. The hole should tell. Get it under strong magnification. Does the hole look like it was cut perfectly round, or roughly drilled?

Appears like a good bead from the pic, could be abalone. Look further there could be more.

No on that Quito, almost 40...they have been acting up and the Doc said it should have been done when I was a kid. All done now, few days on the couch with lots of site research going on!

I had mine out at 17, but my quality of life shot up afterwards. Yes the surgery and recovery sucks, but if they were causing you the kind of issues mine caused me you will be so relieved when it’s over! I would get strep throat and tonsillitis constantly. Numerous times in a year. My dad’s cause him misery every day and he is in his late 50s. He just deals with it. I give you credit for getting those things out of ya despite age! They’re useless, annoying things. Good luck. Had to chime in [emoji4]

Ok so now I’m reconsidering every seashell I ever found on the beach with a hole in it.. I always thought this happened naturally sometimes... 🤔 .....don’t even tell me!!

Although your find seems to be a confirmed artifact (and an entirely different type of shell from these), I just eased my own mind with a quick search. Figured I’d share the interesting info I found! ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1521007372.329096.jpg

I hear ya, new to me too...the context is what I feel nails it beyond the confirmations...I found a point near it only 4 days prior, and it seems shaped not broken. Conical hole too...I guess it could be natural/modern but I've lived at the beach almost my entire life and it caught my eye!
