I'm not sure what it might have been used for but a Pottery tool sounds about right. I will say that from the looks of the bone it is probably a rib bone of a very large animal.

Natives in South Florida and the Caribbean had vomic sticks/spatulas for inducing vomiting, they also had a similar tool like that for inducing labor (used to break the water.) The early spanish missionaries documented their use, otherwise they would still be mysteries.
