I found this riveted iron plate on a 19th century steamship wreck site today in a north Mississippi river ppp.JPG p01.JPG p02.JPG . Can anyone help me in identifying what it could have gone to? A boiler? A boiler door?
Thanks for any help.

It literally could have been any part of a steel hulled ship or a part of a door etc. It's old, but hard to exactly pin point what it is.

Do the riveted construction appear consistent with a 19th century ship?

Of course it is an old ship piece. Exactly, who knows? Yes that is probably over 100 years old, but hard to tell what and how old from that.
