Nice. My uncle gave me custody of such a box. Most was spent on the children, I still have the silvers. Eisenhowers and S B Anthony's were the most things saved.

When I was very young my mom started coin collecting with me. We spent a few years adding to the 4 books I found. They brought back many memories as she passed 12 years ago. I remember when my parents passed in 2004 and 2005, me and my sisters and brother has to travel over 6 hours on weekends to clean out the house, which contained many things from my parents and grandparents. I vaguely recall finding some old coins that really meant nothing to me then (wow!). I brought the coins and books back to my house 12 years ago and promptly lost all of them. I searched for a few years and eventually gave up thinking I must have given them away. When my daughter showed me the shoebox from the basement yesterday while we were decorating for Christmas, I was blown away.

To hunt for any of these coins, as I have for a long time now through fields, farms, beaches, and backyards, to find a lost shoebox containing far more than I ever realized or appreciated, is amazing.

That’s an heirloom collection right there! Great to see these being brought back into the light and appreciated for what they really are,and that is individual works of art. You are a lucky man to have started this thing long ago....

Sounds like your basement was a treasure hunt in itself ! Glad the coins were found, and it brought back memories of you and your mom enjoying the coin collecting hobby.
