Short hunt leads to 3rd ring 2012

I went down to a park that is on the bay near me yesterday afternoon. I fooled around in the open areas and woods a little then went down to the little beach since it was low tide. I forced myself to really listen to my AT Pro and tried to decipher targets from hot rocks. I tried to guess before I dug and I think I have a little more of a handle on it now.

I'm getting back to hunting alone again and I think it helps me go at my own pace. Although it's always friendly I find myself almost "competing" when I'm hunting with others. I move too quickly and it seems like I'm the only one not getting the good stuff. I know it's me- I do the same thing fishing! When I'm alone I remember why I enjoy this hobby and I concentrate on my own hunt rather than those around me. Then I come here and enjoy all your finds and get all revved up again!

Anyway... My concentration paid off with my 3rd ring this year and finally finally finally- gold! It's marked 10K and I'm not sure if it was clipped or broke. Can't make out the initials because no matter how I hold it, it looks like one letter is backward! It's small- maybe women's size 4.

I also saw a little kid with a detector with his family walking along- It's getting fierce out there!

No Worries Bev...I'll be chest deep in the bay until they get crowded out in the summer, and then I'll start some land hunting. I'm surprised they still let you detect there, seeing the park dates back so long...you know the archies, God forbid you find anything over 100 years old. I've done quite abit of research on that park, along with the Goddard and Ives families. I have many areas of interest on my list, and although Goddard is among them, it's lower on my list. I was born and raised in Rhode Island, and at the young age of 49 I've come to know quite a few places of interest. I see that you will be joining forces with JB, and although I have not met him personally and only know him from his posts here, he sounds like a very interesting and well trained in TH'ing.
Best of luck to you both.
HH.

I agree with RFrady, it looks like a seal ring for hot wax. If you flip the pic the initials are GHT in reverse. Really Kool and remember Bev, "Slow and steady wins the race". :coffee2:

Hi Bev, it's John from Warwick. You may want to research the name George H Tillinghast, as he was a very prominent figure in Rhode Island. The average person would not own a wax seal ring. Maybe something very special there.
Good luck, and HH.

On a lot of seal rings - the large middle initial is the last name
so you never know - usually the monogram is deeper cut
but never know who the jeweler was -
some were used with ink instead to stamp documents too
instead of wax to seal them
it looks old though - by other rings found in my past and by friends with similar style lettering
I would date in the 20's or 30's
do you have a pic of the 10 K marking?

Here's one that I found at an old beach
was told it looks like Roman god Bacchus
and other is Mercury
one of my cooler old rings
