Hi Everyone,

I found this at about 5 inches deep along with pieces of foundation stone and small brick chunks. I actually had to dig this out from under one of those foundation stones.

It looks like a bent, broken spur.

It is HEAVY.

Taking a couple days off....gonna hit it again next week as we're supposed to have temps climb back up into the low/mid 60's.

Last dash to dig for the season!

Happy Hunting,

~Indiana Digger~

PS: Anyone else have problems loading the forum page the past couple days?

I just looked in Howard Crouch's relic book, and it does look like the Confederate ones pictured in it!

ID, cool find with the spur! And, yes, quite slow for me, at times. I'm on a 20 meg connection and some pages are taking way longer than usual. I thought it was my machine, except, it didn't seem to be happening at other sites. :dontknow:

Thanks for the ID, REB. This was found in east central Indiana. If it is a confed spur, it's a long ways from home...or is it?
I appreciate the help!

Thanks,

You should NOT attempt to straighten it. As thick as that brass is, it will discolor and show distress in the patina. It will also be in danger of breaking. Have it professionally restored (Contact Roland at Hallowed Ground Restorations). OR leave it as-is.

Spurs are so very often found bent, especially in plowed fields.

Hope this helps,

Buckles

awesome spur!!! As for the site, same thing here, 20meg connection and no other site is slow except this. Seems like the owners should consider paying for some more bandwidth
